Exploring a Career as a Financial Advisor in Singapore? Talk to us today!

There’s so much finance content online! Do I really need a financial advisor?

It’s safe to say that most people from the younger generation feel intimated by any financial talk that comes up. With tons of cryptic-sounding jargon and a dizzying amount of numbers at first glance, even beginning to look into your finances is something most will put off as long as they can.

But this may explain why illustrated easy-to-understand financial content on social media platforms has been gaining popularity. More and more content creators are producing content such as short and cute comics depicting everyday financial situations or struggles in a simple and digestible way. Some notable ones are The Woke Salaryman and The Simple Sum. These creators utilise illustrated storytelling to tackle intimidating topics and make them fun and easy to understand. Besides this, with the rise of TikTok, much more short and sweet educational finance-related content is also on the rise. So instead of feeling overwhelmed and just scrolling on to the next post, you actually want to learn more.

Content like this allows people to open up and feel encouraged to read and learn about a topic that is essentially unavoidable but is avoided quite often. A person’s finances are extremely important to their livelihood and future but as a young adult, it is often left on the very end of the to-do list. It’s not because they do not want to think about it, but the resources available till recently have been challenging to absorb.

However, this doesn’t mean that there is no need for actual financial advisors. Funny and cute comics can be useful for getting the ball rolling on financial education but that is only the beginning of it. It is impossible to be fully educated with bite-sized content alone as it is usually overly simplified to be able to fit in short reads. To get a full understanding, you will still need to go much deeper. So, either you take up the responsibility of doing the leg work by researching on your own or you can seek out the help of a qualified financial consultant that has gone through courses and exams on this very topic.

Financial advisors often get a bad rap, but they aren’t just here to sell you insurance. They are teachers and educators to help people understand their finances and guide them through the process of finding what suits them best.

It may be easier to believe that reading a bunch of finance comics on Instagram makes you a financially educated person, but why lie to yourself? Without a doubt are these types of resources helpful, but it is impossible to fit all the complex financial concepts you need to know in such limited packages. That’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Here are a list of Finance related Comics available in Singapore.

The Simple Sum

The Woke Salaryman

The Woke Salaryman was set up with the intention of helping Singaporeans make better financial and life choices through education – even if it means going against the grain compared to what previous generations or conventional wisdom might say – with the believe that when people are financially stable, they’re more capable of making rational and wiser decisions – not just for themselves, but for society as a whole.
