Singlife has partnered with the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) to introduce a comprehensive mental health and wellness scheme tailored for legal professionals in Singapore. This pioneering programme serves to provide access to mental health resources that address the high-stress demands of the legal field.
Over 13,000 legal professionals will have access to a complimentary mental health support scheme, designed to provide essential wellness services valued at over S$1,000 per member each year. This initiative aims to support the mental health needs of Singapore’s legal community, offering resources that help members manage the unique challenges and pressures associated with their profession.
A central feature of the scheme is Behavioural Health Coaching. Each member is eligible for three 30-minute sessions per year with licensed coaches and counsellors, available in virtual or text-based formats. These sessions provide flexible and accessible support, helping legal professionals address emotional well-being and build resilience.
The scheme also offers Clinical Counselling. Members can benefit from three one-hour counselling or therapy sessions annually with licensed psychologists or psychiatrists, accessible virtually or in person. This feature provides a deeper level of clinical support, tailored to individual mental health needs.
In addition, members will have access to a Self-Care Platform designed to offer round-the-clock resources. This platform provides wellness tools, structured programs, and a 24/7 helpline for urgent or crisis situations, creating an integrated support system to foster long-term well-being.
In addition to the mental health support, Singlife is enhancing the scheme with personal accident coverage worth S$15,000 for accidental death or total permanent disability. Members also gain discounts on Singlife insurance products, health screenings, and lifestyle rewards, creating a holistic approach to health and wellness for legal practitioners.
The initiative was introduced at the inaugural Legal Professional Symposium, where Honourable Justice Valerie Thean underscored its importance, noting that the pressures of legal practice have increased the need for structured mental health support. Chia Ko Wen, Singlife’s Head of Sustainability, echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in Singlife’s role as the first insurer to offer SAL members such a scheme.
The programme will launch in January 2025 and is set to run for two years. This partnership between Singlife and SAL reflects a commitment to addressing mental health in the legal profession, ensuring that Singapore’s legal professionals have access to the resources they need to maintain both their mental and physical well-being.
